GOODIE INNOVATION WEEKEND (JAN 26-27, 2019)
36 HOURS TO LAUNCH DIGITAL MARKETING CAMPAIGNS THAT BRING AWARENESS TO THE SCHOOL-TO-PRISON PIPELINE ISSUE
With the help of some amazing partners like The Walton Family Foundation, we produced our first-ever Goodie Impact Pre-Accelerator virtual cohort. Dubbed Goodie Digital, it is a three-month program designed to help passionate leaders and organizations launch digital marketing campaigns that raise awareness about some of the world’s most pressing problems. This cohort’s theme is Disrupting the School-To-Prison Pipeline, and the objective is for each team to come up with a really cool strategy that uses a combination of social media, email, and a website to address issues like trauma informed care, teacher absenteeism, learning disabilities, financial literacy, bullying, and reading deficiencies drive students into the prison pipeline.
Goodie Innovation Weekend is where it all comes together, in a hackathon-like format, as the teams officially launch their campaigns. And what better time to address the School-To-Prison Pipeline than just before the Big Game where football teams from the NFC and AFC will play in Atlanta on Sunday, February 3rd. The 10 days before it will be jam packed with amazing activities, and Goodie Innovation Weekend will be one of them!
The School-to-Prison Pipeline, a disturbing national trend wherein mainly black and brown children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems, is a big deal, and not enough people know about it. So let’s do something about it.
The challenge to each team: launch an online campaign that will reach 10 million people by January 2020.
In this immersive and intense 36-hour event taking place at Google’s Atlanta office, teams in our Goodie Digital program combine with digital marketing mentors to implement lessons from the last few months in an effort to generate creative advocacy campaigns that use social media and websites to raise awareness about a specific aspect of the School-To-Prison Pipeline issue. Late Sunday afternoon, teams present their awesome solutions to an audience of industry experts, family members, friends, and professionals in a “science-fair” style format. And when we say “awesome”, we mean campaigns like these.
HOW IT WORKS
After a brief networking period for teams and digital marketing mentors and overview session on Saturday morning, teams race against the clock to launch their own campaigns. They’ll create a logo, launch a website with content, set up social media accounts, and create continuous engagement tools with the help of volunteer social media and design mentors.
Teams will work on-site until Saturday evening, and we’ll come back Sunday morning in a sprint toward final presentations that afternoon. We’ll conclude Goodie Innovation Weekend with networking event complete with food and drinks.

Unfortunately, no. At this time our objective is to help teams that have been participating in the cohort over the last few months.
Zero. It’s completely free.
Because our amazing sponsors, partners, and volunteers want to help save the world.
Maybe. Depending on transportation, you’ll have to pay to park.
Final Presentations will be in a science-fair style format where they will talk to you, and you’ll have time to ask them questions. Try to figure out ways to assist them – things like introductions, sharing their details online, contributions, etc.
