Goodie Nation Founder and CEO, Joey Womack’s life purpose is to equalize socio-economic disparities in communities all over the world, and his goal is to help 1 billion people by the year 2039. And he’s serious about it. A “Rebel with a Cause” at the leading edge of change, Joey was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug in 2002 when he launched a startup as a student at Florida A&M University.
Goodie Nation has roots as a Facebook group of high-performance entrepreneurs of color dating back to 2010. The group first began to meet offline in 2012 to vent about things only other entrepreneurs could understand. Dubbed Founders’ Therapy, the event showed the power of cultivating relationships by bringing talented people online, and then bringing them together for unique in-person experiences. On March 1, 2014, the group was called together again for Goodie Hack, a 10-hour hackathon to solve the technology problems of awesome non-profits already doing great work. Originally intended to be a one-time project, Goodie Hack showed the potential for how mashing up technologists, business professionals, and community advocates could solve civic problems.
As the home of the Civil Rights Movement, Atlanta perfectly embodies what we’ve pledged to do: accept the calling to do the impossible, immediately think how we can make it happen, break the impossible into manageable pieces, focus on the next step in the process – not the end, accept that failure is likely yet still believe, and be innovative while having fun.
