BRING MASSIVE AWARENESS TO THE SCHOOL-TO-PRISON PIPELINE ISSUE

DIGITAL COHORT OVERVIEW

With the help of some amazing partners like The Walton Family Foundation, we are producing the first-ever virtual cohort of our Goodie Impact Pre-Accelerator. Dubbed Goodie Digital, it is a three-month program designed to help passionate leaders and organizations launch digital marketing campaigns that raise awareness about some of the world’s most pressing problems. This cohort’s theme is Disrupting the School-To-Prison Pipeline, and the objective is for each team to come up with a really cool strategy that uses a combination of social media, email, and a website to address a specific aspect of the issue.

In this fast-paced, part-time program, teams will walk away with a landing page, logo, revenue model, and marketing plan to begin making an impact as well as begin raising funding. Goodie Nation provides the workshops as well as volunteer mentors to develop into thriving, sustainable ventures that create measurable impact.

DETAILS

The School-to-Prison Pipeline, a disturbing national trend wherein mainly black and brown children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems, is a big deal, and not enough people know about it. So let’s do something about it.

The challenge to your team: launch an online campaign that will reach 10 million people by January 2020.

Goodie Nation will help your team launch a world-class online marketing effort that uses a combination of web, social media, email, etc. to create massive awareness around a specific aspect of the issue. You’ll even get “bonus points” if you can highlight existing, yet less well-known initiatives/programs that may be addressing it. And when we say “world-class”, we mean campaigns like these.

HOW IT WORKS

We’ll select a small number of teams to participate in the cohort, and each team will be asked to focus on a specific area of the School-to-Prison Pipeline. Every Monday evening, we’ll host a webinar or conference call to teach the basics of design thinking and digital marketing relative to the creation of an online campaign. At the end of each session, teams will be given weekly deliverables (aka homework) due by the next session.

At the end of the program, all teams will come together for an in-person Innovation Weekend where they will implement the lessons and launch their campaigns. Goodie Nation staff and mentors will be on hand to assist throughout the program.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’m not in Atlanta. Can I start a team?

Yes. However you must attend the in-person Innovation Weekend in Atlanta. You are responsible for your own travel and lodging.

Is Goodie Digital only for those that want to launch a digital marketing campaign?

Yes. At this time our objective is to help teams launch digital marketing campaigns. In the future, we may expand to open source projects and software products.

How much does it cost for a team to apply for Goodie Digital?

Zero. It’s completely free.

How is this possible?

Because our amazing sponsors, partners, and volunteers want to help save the world.

Am I expected to spend any money during the program?

Yes, but it doesn’t go to Goodie Nation. You’ll need to create a logo and website during Innovation Weekend, and the services we recommend aren’t free. We expect this to cost approx. $500 over a 12 month period.

Can existing projects, non-profits, or for-profit companies take part in the program?

Yep! We actually prefer for this to be the case. You can use our program as an opportunity to create a new campaign around your existing work. However, only three (3) people from your organization may participate.

I have an idea, but I haven’t started working on it yet. Can I still participate?

Even better. Our process will help get it out of your head, and refine it.

My team doesn’t have an idea yet, can we still participate?

Yes. We’ll help you generate an innovative idea. We look for people with a track record of getting things done.

How many people can be on a team?

Your team may have a maximum of three (3) people. The preferred breakdown of positions is a team leader, digital marketer, and a designer.

Can I be a solo founder?

Yes, but we prefer teams of 2-3 people as it increases the likelihood of success. It takes a lot to be successful, and it is extremely difficult for one person to do everything alone.

Do I need to be a marketing genius?

No, but it would be helpful if someone on your team already focuses on an aspect of digital marketing like social media.

Do I need to know how to code?

Nope!

Am I expected to start a company?

Be prepared to do so. If your campaign really starts to take off, then you’ll need a method to collect money. Regardless, you should be thinking about how to make money, and be self-sustaining from Day 1.

Who owns the intellectual property produced during the program?

Your company does.

Does Goodie Nation take equity in my company?

No. You own it 100%. However, we are open to taking equity or participating in revenue-share agreements in exchange for additional services

Does Goodie Nation provide funding as part of the program?

Nope, but we do provide a ton of free resources.

I can’t participate on some of those dates. Can I still start a team?

Unfortunately, no. Attendance is required for those who will start a team. People are suffering on a daily basis, and we all have to make sacrifices to reverse this.

Does the idea have to be a tech-based solution?

Everything these days involves some form of technology. But at most, your idea will be tech-enabled. Perhaps it can be turned into software in the future.

Is this a full-time program?

Nope. We’ve designed it so you have time for a job, class, etc. However, there will be a lot of work to do! Expect to put in 10-15 hours a week.
